It felt good to hit the ground running again, having been “sidelined” for a few days due to some sort of a mystical, life-threatening disease. For nearly a week, I couldn’t see, eat, move, think, but most importantly, breathe! I never realized the importance of breathing until this disease kicked in, and I now finally understand what those unfortunate souls that have asthma must feel on a daily basis, as they can never really catch a good, full breath of air…
Being unable to breathe, I decided to skip a few planned running sessions and get better before resuming the psycho-schedule. It probably would have taken me at least a year to recover from this life-threatening ailment, if it weren’t for the amazing help from my doctor-friend, Dr. Yana, who through some magical means was able to cure me easily and effectively! She somehow sensed my suffering, and in a truly mysterious way was able to get me back on my feet in just 2-3 days! I am forever in her debt, and will dedicate the rest of my 2011 running miles to her! I also offered to do her cardio for her from now on, if she doesn’t have the time…
As I got back outside, I felt like a bird being released from captivity, and wanted to run like mad, going faster and faster, only to discover that my lungs and legs may still need a little recovery time. After the initial euphoria subsided, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I still had what it took to cover my usual distance, just at a slightly slower pace… Another pleasant surprise – I now have a running “buddy”, another lonely figure out there at 5 AM, running on the opposite side of the road, all covered up in strange baggy clothing, going really slowly, but still, out there and doing it! I couldn’t quite tell if the person was male or female, or if he/she was even human at all – it’s really dark out there that early – but I gave ‘it’ a nice, friendly fist-pump! Nothing back from the mystery-runner, but that’s ok, maybe next time!
